‘Shards’ is a ritual piece where my unwanted art work is transformed into a new work. This work won’t be discarded but will be exhibited and added to in the future. Many artists destroy their unsuccessful work as part of their creative process.

The act of breaking work facilitates moving on from cal-de-sac ideas and technical frustrations. ‘Shards’ elevates this usually private, neglected affair into a public art event and questions the traditional focus on the finished form. ‘Shards’ also touches on the issue of contemporary pottery being under-valued in the west.
